Frog Lovey Free Pattern

I have a new niece & nephew to crochet for so am loving designing lots of baby items. My kids are teenagers now and are far too cool to want anything that their mum has made so it is really nice to be able to make things for little kids again. This little lovey/security blanket was inspired by the frogs in my dad’s pond. I hope you all enjoy making lots of loveys from this free pattern. Things you will need:

-Blue & green yarn with a little black yarn for embroidering the mouth & eyelids

-4mm crochet hook

-Toy stuffing for head & eyes

-Yarn needle

Start each round with ch 1 when working in sc & ch 3 when working in dc. Finish each round by joining to the start of the round with a slip stitch

Eyes. Make 2 (using green)

R1:6 sc into magic ring (6)


R2: inc into every stitch (12)


R3-5: sc into each st


R6: dec into every st (6)

Finish off leaving long tail to sew eyes to head, Embroider eyelids onto eyes with black yarn and stuff lightly

Head (using green)

R1:6 sc into magic ring (6)

R2: inc into every stitch (12)

R3: (1 inc, 3sc, 1 inc, 1sc) x2 (16)

R4:(1 inc, 4sc, 1 inc, 2sc) x2 (20)

R5:(1 inc, 5sc, 1 inc, 3sc) x2 (24)

R6:(1 inc, 6sc, 1 inc, 4sc) x2 (28)

R7-10:sc around

R11 (1 dec, 6sc, 1 dec, 4sc) x2 (24)

R12: (1 dec, 5sc, 1 dec, 3sc) x2 (20)

R13: (1 dec, 4sc, 1 dec, 2 sc) x2 (18)

Sew eyes to top of head & embroider mouth. Stuff firmly.

Water (using blue)

R1: 8dc into magic ring (8)


R2: inc into every stitch (16)


R3: (1 inc, 1dc) x8 (24)


R4:(1 inc, 2dc) x8 (32)


R5:(1 inc, 3dc) x8 (40)


R6: (1 inc, 4dc) x8 (48)


R7: (1 inc, 5dc) x8 (56)


R8: (1 inc, 6dc) x8 (64)


R9: (1 inc, 7dc) x8 (72)


R10: (1inc, 8dc) x8 (80)


Finish off & weave in ends

Sew the head to the middle of the water firmly and weave in ends. Ta daaaah, you are all finished.
